They say: The title of this beautiful Tarot refers to Mlle Lenormand, a pseudonym for Marie Anne Lenormand (Alencon 1768 - Paris 1843), the French fortune-teller who went down in history as the cartomant of Josephine Beauharnais, first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Even if Mlle Lenormand never invented a deck of cards, toward the middle of the nineteenth century numerous French and German card manufacturers designed cartomantic decks whose titles recalled this most renowned modern Sybil.
The Lenormand Tarot was based on these decks, whose attractive figures directly express all different kinds of existential situations.
